SKILLS/TOOLS for Success

Essential Skills means you will understand and remember concepts introduced in technical training. The level of Essential Skills required for most trades is as high or higher that it is for many office jobs. Essential skills are used in nearly every job and at different levels of complexity. They provide the foundation for learning all other skills and enable people to evolve with their jobs and adapt to workplace change.  The following 9 skills have been identified and validated as key essential skills for the workplace.

 

Essential Skills Assessment

A comprehensive set of random questions that takes on average in 15-20 minutes for each of the nine skills. A star rating system is used to show the results and career recommendations. The star rating represents the five complexity levels of tasks associated with the nine skills. Most questions will test essential skill levels from one to three.

Explore Careers by Essential Skills

This site illustrates how each of the 9 essential skills are generally performed by most occupations. The levels of complexity estimated for each task are ranked between 1 (basic) and 5 (advanced). Other areas to explore on this site include : job related job profiles, NOC Classification wages, job prospects and labour market trends in careers.

Each trade has a designated landing page that outlines the entrance requirements and average wages.  CTAO features 30 construction trades and is a premier starting point for future tradespeople and the general public to learn about the construction skilled trades.
